Miyamoto Musashi (1584–1645) was a legendary Japanese samurai , swordsman, artist and philosopher. He is known for his invincible martial arts , in which he perfected the two-sword technique ( Niten Ichi-ryū ), and for his work The Book of Five Rings ( Go Rin no Sho ), in which he sets out his philosophy of strategy and life.

Musashi fought in over 60 duels and remained undefeated. He emphasized discipline, adaptability and inner calm as the keys to success and mastery. In addition to his martial arts, he was a gifted artist and created works in painting, calligraphy and architecture. His teachings continue to inspire today through their universal application to combat, strategy and life.
