A geisha is a traditional Japanese entertainer who amuses guests with art, music, and cultured conversation. The term literally means "person of the arts."

Geishas are specially trained in areas such as dance, singing, playing instruments (e.g., shamisen), tea ceremony, and etiquette. Their goal is to create an elegant and harmonious atmosphere – not in the sense of entertainment through a show, but through refined, cultural performance.

Their elaborate appearance is typical: an artfully tied kimono, a face made up with white, red lips, and a traditional hairstyle or wig. In training, young women begin as maiko (geisha apprentices) before becoming full-fledged geisha.

Geishas represent discipline, aesthetics, and the preservation of Japanese traditions.
